Lingzhi (Reizhi) is divided into Red Lingzhi (Ganoderma Lucidum), Yellow Lingzhi (Ganoderma multlplicatum), Black Lingzhi (anoderma atrum), etc., among which, Red Lingzhi wins general popularity. Mount Tai, the most famous mountain in China, is a natural producing area of Red Lingzhi. In ancient Chinese folk tales, Lingzhi was regarded as the Immortal's herb with the magic power of waking up the death. So it has been very precious since then. According to the record in the ancient Chinese Compendium of Materia Medica, Lingzhi has these functions: tonifying Energy-Flow(Qi); invigorating wisdom; enhancing immunity and anti senility.
Modern pharmacological analysis shows that Lingzhi contains the following substances: ergosterol, protease, various proteins, amino acids, polypeptide, saccharide, lactone, alkaloid, polysaccharide, triterpenoide, vitamin B1, B2, B6, E, cumarin and different trace elements. It is the triterpenoide contained in Lingzhi, or "ganoderische acids", to which the effects of decreasing the cholesterol and high blood pressure are attributed. polysaccharide works immune-system-strengthening and hinders the growth of tumors.
